Chester Plays Opera

Chester Plays Opera

Chester Schmitz

I interned at Starstruck Studios on Music Row in 2007, and during that time, my dad, Chester Schmitz who was the tubist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra for 35 years, wanted to a very special album. He had always wanted to demonstrate that the tuba was just as capable as any other instrument, when it came to playing beautiful music. Often seen simply as ‘the bass’, my dad wanted to use his favorite melodies from opera to show this beauty. I was able to block out 2 days of recording in Studio A, and my dad flew his best friend, Larry Williams, down to Nashville from MA, and we went at it. I am very proud of them and of this project. It is a very special and unique set of songs. You can listen to my favorite song from the album below, and you can listen to the full album on iTunes.
